Card identity fraud does still happen

December 8, 2006

Card identity fraud does still happenWhilst credit card fraud has declined over recent years due to new chip and pin devices being introduced, unfortunately it does still happen.

The problem seems to be that identity thefts are still managing to both look over customer’s shoulders at checkouts and memorise their pin numbers and they find important documents through people’s bin bags. Banks are being urged to keep their customer’s information safe.

We have been warned so many times about credit card theft and identity fraud so just what is it that is making us close our eyes to it?

The best way to look after your identity is to shred it. Shredders do not cost much and they really do help in the fight against identity fraud. Thieves spend hours going through people’s bin bags just to steal their identity and con them out of potentially thousands of pounds. A shredder shreds literally everything so that those thieves cannot read your details.

The most worrying fact is that people leave their pin numbers lying around extremely easily. Many even write their pin number on their hands so they do not forget it when they get to the checkout. This means that anybody can easily see the number and that could lead to identity theft.

The internet is also another way thieves are cashing in. Millions of people use their credit cards every single day online and there is so much opportunity for thieves to strike. Whilst there are many secure sites out there, you do still have to be careful as there are some which are not completely genuine.

Overall though we may be getting somewhere with identity theft, it seems that there is still quite a long way to go. People really do need to start tightening up their security and a simple shredder is all it takes to stop thieves getting details from your bin bags. Don’t play around with your money, ensure that it is safe and buy a shredder today!
