The benefits of using your credit card for Christmas
November 28, 2007
As Christmas fast approaches, you will have no doubt been thinking about using your credit card to pay for everything. Perhaps you have even applied for a new credit card especially for Christmas? If so then you may actually be making the best decision as to how to pay for your gifts.
These days we are constantly warned about the dangers of using our credit cards to pay for everything. In particular Christmas time is a time when we are most warned about over using our cards as often people do tend to get into serious debt that they end up paying off for the whole of the next year. However, there are times when using a credit card is actually the best option.
The first reason why using a credit card to purchase your gifts is advisable is because you are usually protected on the purchases that you make. If you just use a debit card then you are not usually protected and so any losses you make because of the goods you have purchased will not be covered. If you pay by credit card, you will be covered in case of loss or theft and so that leaves you with less worry over Christmas.
If you do things properly you can also benefit from not having to pay for the purchases for quite a number of days. You usually have up to 21 days until your next statement and so if you time it properly, you could give yourself enough time to pay off the balance owed. With debit cards you have to have the money in your account to pay for the purchases. So using a credit card buys you time if you need it.
Finally if you choose the right credit card, you could actually earn extra benefits. There are many credit cards which offer you benefits for spending money on the cards and you can even donate to charity if you want to too.
Overall there are some advantages to paying for your Christmas with your credit card, you just have to be responsible and plan your spending.
