Keeping your credit card details safe this Christmas
November 29, 2007
Christmas is a time of year which should be joyful and carefree. However for many it signals the start of debt and worry. If you are like thousands of other people, then you will no doubt be relying upon your credit card to fund this Christmas. However one thing that you may not consider is the fact that Christmas is the one time of the year when fraudsters are most likely to gain your credit card details.
So just how do you keep your details safe this Christmas?
The main reason why fraudsters are set to have an excellent Christmas is because more people than ever before are choosing to buy their gifts online. Some websites do not have the best security measures in place and that leaves customers open to credit card fraudsters. So if you are planning on purchasing your Christmas presents online then there are a couple of things that you should keep in mind.
The first thing that you need to consider before using your card anywhere on the internet is the reputation of the store you are purchasing from. Is it a well known store or have you never actually heard of it before but it seems to have good value? Whilst looking for the cheapest prices is definitely important to most shoppers, it can be a contributing factor to online credit card fraud if you purchase from a store which is hardly known. So try to only purchase from stores which have a good reputation and they are the most likely to have good internet payment security measures in place.
Overall as with everything, you should always check the small print on any website which you are purchasing from. You need to know if you are protected if anything goes wrong. Your goods could get lost in the post for example and so you should see whether the company protects you against that or not before you purchase anything.
