Call for employees to be given time off to sort their finances
November 19, 2007
In order to beat the debt crisis that has rocked the UK over recent years, many new measures have been introduced. A new scheme that has been launched by the company “Axa” is just one that is set to help out thousands of consumers.
The scheme includes every consumer taking one day out of the month to sort out their finances. It comes as studies show that most people do not take the time to go over their finances and therefore they have no idea just how bad things really are. It is a lack of knowledge that leads to debt problems and so by taking one day out of the month to look specifically at your finances, it should really help you to get a good idea of how things are.
As well as encouraging individuals to look at their finances one day a month, the scheme also asks employers to allow their employees to take the time off to do it. Employers are asked to allow their employees one hour a month to take a look at and sort out their finances. Obviously allowing them to take a whole day off would be asking too much and it is also likely that the employee wouldn’t use the time on their finances anyway. By having the employees there for an hour, the employer can monitor how that time is being spent. So an hour a month does seem reasonable and it is plenty of time to allow any phone calls to be made and for a plan to be drawn up.
Most people are in some form of debts, with credit cards being one of the major problems. Employees usually take time out of their day for non work activities anyway. So by letting them spend the time wisely by sorting out their finances it wouldn’t make much difference to their workload anyway.
