Are you living with the threat of debt this Christmas?
November 16, 2007
Christmas is almost always a strain on your finances and with so many gifts, decorations and food to purchase it is not hard to see why! However it is an expense that not many people can actually afford and so they end up paying for it on their credit cards.
The debt crisis in the UK is at an all time high this year and it is only set to get a lot worse as Christmas fast approaches. So are you facing the threat of debt this Christmas and if so what can you do about it?
Unfortunately there is not much time left to save up money for Christmas. However, it is still possible to save up as much as you can. If you can get overtime at work then that would be a good idea and if you can cut back on certain things too then that can help you to save a little more. However, if these are simply not options for you and you have to rely upon your credit card then there are still things that you should keep in mind.
If you are using your card then you should agree to either use it for the large items or the small items only. By choosing to pay the larger items you will obviously have more interest to pay off as the New Year approaches. However, by purchasing the larger items on your card it really can help you out quite a lot. On the other hand if you pay for all of the smaller expenses on the card that can also help as it is surprising how much money it all adds up to. Generally though, it is usually a better idea to pay for larger purchases on your card even though the interest will obviously be higher.
Overall due to the debt crisis that is facing thousands of families this Christmas, it is causing a lot of stress and worry at a time of year which should be happy and celebratory. So if you are facing a Christmas full of debt then you can rest assured that you are certainly not alone.
