What could the future hold for credit cards?
October 12, 2007
If you own a credit card or if you have been looking into the different credit
cards available, you are likely to know just how much they have changed over
time. With advances in technology, now you can shop with your card relatively
safely with chip and pin technology and you can even purchase items online
too. So with all of the improvements made on credit cards, it does sometimes
make you wonder what the future of them will include.
We already know that in the near future credit cards will be able to be used by just swiping the card. This will make things a lot quicker for the people of London in particular where large queues often form and cause major delays. In Japan credit cards can even be used to purchase items from a vending machine and that concept is likely to come to the UK as time goes on. However, a man named “Roger Arquer” has introduced a new concept of what credit cards may look like in the future and it is actually quite impressive.
The theory is that credit cards will act kind of like a money clip. It will allow you to attach any money that you may have in your pocket, to your credit card and that will then eliminate the need for a wallet. Many people are worried about carrying around a wallet, especially in the more built up cities and towns throughout the UK. This is because a lot of wallets get stolen without you even realising it. So the fact that the credit card could act as a money clip would certainly benefit a lot of people as it will not be as obvious in their pocket as a wallet would be.
Generally the design of the money clip credit card is fantastic. However whether it will actually be turned into reality or not is yet to be seen. The design was actually made in 2004 for the Visa Europe Creative Intelligence Design Competition, so it was a little while ago now that it was introduced.
Overall nobody can truly predict the future for credit cards. However, after
looking at this particular design, it is easy to see why it could be a huge
hit with consumers across the UK.
