Does your teen use your card to gamble online?
September 14, 2007
Credit cards are used by millions of people in the UK and they are extremely convenient for purchasing absolutely anything that you want, wherever you want. Due to the fact that they are so popular, the internet has made it extremely easy for you to use your credit cards online. Now as great as this is, it can also be potentially dangerous if you live in a house with teenagers.
There are no checks given on the internet to ensure that you are who you say you are when you use your card. You simply just have to type in the card number and a few details that your children would know and anything can be purchased. For this reason, many teens around the country constantly steal their parent’s credit cards to purchase things online. One particular craze that they seem to be taking part in too is gambling.
It is really easy to gamble online using a credit card and since teenagers do not really understand responsible spending, it can have serious repercussions. So many teenagers are getting their parents in debt by stealing their credit card whenever they can and using it to gamble. So now there has been a new charity set up to help to teach teenagers about responsible spending.
This new charity hopes that by teaching teenagers more about the consequences of online gambling, it will stop them from making irresponsible decisions. But will it really work?
There is no denying that teaching teenagers more about the effects of online gambling will improve their awareness of the problem. However, it all really depends upon the individual teenager as to whether it makes a difference for them or not. It certainly can’t hurt to teach them to be more responsible but as long as there are credit cards around and the internet is an easy marketplace, then there is little hope of the problem completely disappearing.
