Credit cards burnt seeking the sun
July 27, 2006

Britons spend a total of £4.1 billion, an average of £121, buying items for their holiday before they even reach the airport, a new survey has found.
Even before the sun cream is applied on the beach, holidaymakers are splashing out on creams and other holiday accessories, with the Post Office saying that six million people will spend more than £200.
"People want to make sure they look their best and have fun on holiday, and for many this means a lot of preparation before they even board the flight – spending that perhaps isn't always realised in the total cost of a holiday," commented Gary Fitton, head of Post Office credit card.
Looking at how people used their credit card before they went abroad, the Post Office found that two thirds of people will splash out on new toiletries.
However, the same amount will be kitting themselves out with a whole new holiday wardrobe and 38 per cent will pick up new beach wear.
With spending before to be matched or surpassed by spending on holiday, Mr Fitton urged holidaymakers to ensure that they have a credit card with the best deal for them.
