Abbey announces cashback for card users on holiday

Financial service provider Abbey has announced that any of its customers who use their Visa Electron or Visa Debit card at a Banco Santander cash machine in Spain this summer will receive two per cent cashback.

Overseas transaction fees still apply on any withdrawals made, however.

The offer will be available between July 1st and September 30th 2006 and will credit two per cent cashback to a minimum of €2.5, which will then be converted into sterling based on the exchange rate on the day the cashback is credited.

Sue Hayes, director of product marketing at Abbey, said that the move was intended to allow customers to "experience the advantages" of the company being a part of the Santander group.

"Not only are we able to offer a Santander mortgage to finance a second home in Spain but now we'll also give cashback on the euros our customers withdraw while they are on holiday in Spain," Ms Hayes added.

Any cash machines belonging to the Santander group and displaying a flame will offer cashback to Abbey customers when used.

Any amount paid will be placed in customer accounts within two weeks of withdrawal.
