More money being spent on energy efficient home improvements
June 15, 2007
Over the last year more and more people have been getting loans and spending on their credit cards for energy efficient home improvements. It is thought that some improvements can add value to the home of up to £5,000 and homeowners are picking up on this and doing their houses up before making a sale.
Another reason why loans and credit cards are being used in this way is because people are genuinely concerned about the environment. They want to make a difference and by improving their homes and making them more energy efficient, they can really make a difference.
It also seems that there is a pattern with the age range of consumers taking out these types of loans too. Older people tend to be taking out the most amount of money to help to make their homes more energy efficient these days, whereas a year ago it was the younger generation who wanted to invest in their homes.
Of course it makes sense to make your home more environmentally friendly as not only will you be doing your part for the environment, but you will also be saving money yourself. If less energy is released then your household bills will not be as high and that could make you save potentially a lot of money.
Overall as global warming continues it is likely that more and more people will choose to borrow money in order to help out and improve the environment. It does not cost a lot to make a difference however and so if you cannot afford to purchase the more expensive energy saving equipment, you could always just make small changes such as switching to energy saving bulbs instead. This could save a lot of energy and they really do not cost that much money either.
