Are you covered for your annual holiday?
June 14, 2007
As summer approaches it is time to start thinking about your annual summer holiday. A week or two of pure relaxation and no work to worry about is most people’s idea of absolute bliss. However, there is one thing that could potentially ruin that blissful holiday you have been longing for over the past year and that is financial protection.
When you pay with a credit card you automatically assume that everything is covered because you have travel insurance. However that is not always the case and in fact if you read the terms and conditions of your travel insurance you may notice that there are certain things missing. Things such as security against theft could be one of them and obviously that does not provide much peace of mind.
It is thought that around 11 million people are risking their money this year when they go on holiday. This is because most people these days book their travel, accommodation and activities independently and that means that there is no added protection available to you and you have to seek out independent insurance.
Another factor to consider is that even if you are protected, many times the protection amount is just not enough. So check the limit on your insurance and estimate the costs of things which could potentially go wrong. What if you have trouble with a hire car? What if the airline goes bankrupt and there is nothing that you can do? You really do need to consider every possible outcome in order to ensure that you and your family are protected.
Overall holidays are supposed to be relaxing but it certainly won’t be if something happens and you find out that you are not actually protected after all! So always check the terms and conditions of your protection and see exactly what it is that it covers and for how much money it covers up to too.
