Green cards wanted by most consumers
May 9, 2007
With all of the talk about global warming and becoming greener these days it is hardly surprising that customers are demanding greener services. Credit cards are one such service which consumers are asking for and they would love to see more credit cards offer green friendly services.
Barclaycard have already launched a green friendly card known as ‘Breathe’ and it is almost certain that all banks will follow in the not too distant future. With the Breathe card the statements are not paper statements but they are in fact cheaper PVC alternatives. This means that fewer trees are being chopped down to fund the statements and therefore the card is greener as a result.
Another feature of the Breathe credit card is that 50% of its profits go to environmentally friendly charities. This is also something which many other banks are set to follow suit with and it is certainly something the consumers are interested in. Many charity cards only give a couple of percent of the profits to charity but with 50% of the profits going to a charity it is excellent and will definitely earn the bank brownie points.
With these green cards already launched and set to be launched, the only question left is how many people will use them. Banks are expected to offer good benefits for consumers using the cards otherwise many people simply may not bother. Other cards are also offering services such as cheaper greener services and products for the home. Many people do not know where to find cheaper alternatives for things within their homes so the fact that their banks are giving them an alternative is a great advantage.
Overall greener credit cards are set to become more and more popular as time goes on and in fact they are likely to overtake their competitors too.
