Credit card payments on the rise again
May 14, 2007
It seems that the hold back on credit card spending after Christmas has now finally ended. With more and more consumers finally feeling safe to spend again, credit cards are becoming more and more popular.
This new evidence shows the reason why cheques are becoming a thing of the past. Credit card payments truly are the most popular form of payment around the country today and it seems like they will continue to be in the future.
Despite millions of people declaring themselves bankrupt because of debt, it does not seem to stop consumers from choosing to overspend on their cards. It is becoming increasingly harder to get hold of a credit card as banks are getting tougher, but there will always be some companies willing to lend to practically anybody.
This new rise in credit card usage follows a quiet period which was left just after Christmas. However now that people are working again and starting to pay off their debts from Christmas, the usage of credit cards has also increased. It is just too tempting to use your credit card to pay for everything. Unless another more convenient payment system comes into place, it is likely that consumers will continue to choose credit cards for their payments.
The worrying thing about the rise in credit card use is that the amount of credit card fraud has also gone up. So the more that people use their cards, the easier that it is for fraudsters to get their details. This basically means that authentication systems really do need to be looked at and improved to protect people’s personal details.
So overall whilst spending on your card may be quick and easy, at the moment it could cost you potentially a lot of money. Unless security systems are improved the amount of credit card fraud is only set to increase.
