Credit card fraud: keep things simple!
May 5, 2007
Everything these days seems to be so complicated and most things that we do are usually picked up on by someone else. There are risks to use everywhere and one of the biggest risks these days seems to be credit card fraud.
It seems that we are not careful enough when it comes to protecting our details and there really is no excuse for that. The things that we need to do to protect our details are so simple that there are no excuses for not doing them. For example, one of the main things that you can do to protect your details whilst you are out and using your card, is to block the card or card reader with either your spare hand or your body.
The reason that you should keep the card covered and your pin number concealed whilst at an ATM machine for example, is because some fraudsters use pinhole cameras to capture you entering your pin number. They can also get the numbers from your credit card if you leave it on the counter for a while whilst you get your receipts. So it is vital that you keep your details covered up as much as possible.
Another thing which you can do is not read out your details in public. It may sound like common sense and generally it is, but there are still many people who do not think twice about giving their personal details away on the telephone whilst out in public or at work. This is obviously a big mistake as there will always be somebody listening in to your conversation and whilst you may not realise it, they can be quick enough to remember your details.
Overall it is the simple things in life that matter and using simple techniques to keep your details safe is highly recommended. It costs nothing to be a little more aware, yet it can cost thousands of pounds in fraud if you are not!
