Could this be a new trend of borrowing beggining to show?New studies have shown that UK consumers are now starting to be a lot more careful with their credit card payments. After countless warning about the rise in debt levels, it seems many consumers are now starting to listen to the advice which is given to them.

These days more and more people are choosing to pay off at least half their balance each month. Others are even choosing the pay off their balance in full and better still, using debit cards wherever possible. This definitely shows that the trend in borrowing is slowly on the decrease.

The rise in debt, IVA’s and bankruptcy has caused major worry in the UK for the past year. It seemed to reach a point where people just did not have any awareness of what they were spending and how they were spending it. Credit cards were freely used and being in debt was just the norm. These days however people do seem to be worried and they do want to improve their credit history.

Using a debit card to pay for purchases, especially smaller purchases, is the best idea. This is because even though you may not think it, those small purchases soon add up and if you use your credit card you could end up in trouble. With a debit card you cannot spend what you do not have and you will soon realise that the smaller purchases are adding up and it will more than likely cause you to stop and think before you buy anything.

So overall the rise in debt could soon grind to a halt if this new responsible attitude continues. However it is still thought that around 80% of consumers still overspend on their cards. This is still a problem but if the balances are being paid off in full then there really is no danger of you getting further into debt.
