Where you live can affect your chances of credit card fraudAccording to new studies, where you live could actually affect your chances of falling victim to credit card fraud. This could be for a number of reasons but whatever those reasons are, if you live in a credit card fraud risk area then you will have to be extra careful with your personal details!

Birmingham seems to be the worst place to live for credit card fraud according to the survey. It seems that details are most likely to get lost through Royal Mail and over the Internet, though another main reason people’s details get found is through their rubbish.

Despite numerous warnings many people still do not shred their personal information. They simply throw their credit card statements away trusting that nobody in their area would dream of going through bin bags, after all, who would risk getting seen in your neighbourhood? Well you would be surprised! It is always better to shred information than trust that nobody will want your details.

One of the most shocking things about credit card fraud is that most people are clueless that they have even been a victim. It is only when they are contacted by their bank that they realise what has been going on.

Next to Birmingham, Plymouth is the second worst place to live within the UK for credit card fraud. It is thought that almost a third of people living there have had their details stolen. The figures are quite shocking really and hopefully it will force people to take greater care with their personal details. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry!

If you want to make sure that this does not happen to you then shred your card details and all personal bills. Also ensure that when you are anywhere that you have to type in your personal details, that nobody is watching you. It is mainly common sense but it is always better to be certain that people cannot get your details. So why not make 2007 the year to ensure that you are not a victim of credit card fraud.
