How to get out of credit card debt
February 9, 2007
Let’s face it, when we go around spending on our credit cards we can often lose track of what we are spending. Those little things here and there really can add up and then at the end of the month a large bill gets dropped through our doors which we just do not recognise. So, what do you do when your credit card bill arrives and it is around the £5,000 mark? Well the first thing to do is to not panic!
You have overspent just like millions of other people do and whilst it may seem like an extremely large sum now, there is a way out of it. You need to be calm, level headed and you need to focus. If you burry your head in the sand it will get you nowhere so you really do need to concentrate and focus on your debt problem.
The second thing to do is to stop spending on the card. If need be get another and try and be a little more financially aware with it. If you simply just keep spending on the card which you are trying to pay off, you will end up in even more debt as interest rates soar. So, by getting another credit card you are saving yourself from even more debt (unless of course you overspend on that one too!).
Finally pay off more than the minimum each month so that again, interest rates do not push the debt up further. Most credit card companies rely upon their consumers paying only the minimum as the interest pushes up the debt making them owe more than they originally did. So, by paying off more than the minimum you are taking control of your finances and making sure that you are debt free as quickly as possible.
