Fancy a pint? use your credit card
February 16, 2007
It seems that our credit cards are used everywhere these days – even the local pub! With more and more people opting to carry cards over cash, they risk becoming seriously in debt due to overspending.
The problem with taking your credit card to the pub is fairly obvious. When you are under the influence of alcohol your financial situation is not really that important to you and you usually spend far too much money. It may be safer to carry a credit card due to the fact that most would be thieves do not know your pin number; but overall you will spend more as it is easy money.
Think about it. When you take cash with you to the pub you spend every last penny that you have and only then do you go home. Well if you have a never ending money supply, how are you going to know when enough is enough? Now not everyone will overspend on their cards but many people will. So, you just have to know what you are like when you are under the influence of alcohol and that will help you to make the best decision for you.
We rely too much on credit cards and it is understandable as it is a quick cash option and it can be a lot safer too. However, it does need looking into. Credit cards should only really be used for essential purchases. That way the balance will get paid off easily at the end of the month and you will not have to worry about debt. The more you use your card for trips to the pub as well as other unnecessary purchases, the more debt you are likely to get into.
Overall credit card companies are starting to crack down on who they lend their cards too, but that will not stop the ever increasing debt if people are using the cards down their local pub. There is only so much a company can do; the rest is up to us. So if you know that you will overspend on your card whilst out at the pub, leave your card at home and opt for cash instead.
