New carbon credit cards made that little bit clearer
January 15, 2007
Not too long ago, news was given that new carbon ration credit cards were going to be introduced. Not too much was known about how the cards would work, but now a little more light is shed on these mystery new cards.
It is thought that at the beginning each and every single person will receive a card and it will only have so many carbon credits on it. Those credits will be taken off as gas, electricity and petrol are all purchased. Many people could argue that this is not a particularly fair system and with gas and electricity prices as high as they currently are, people are no doubt going to be worried about the amount of points which they have. Also, some people need to use more petrol than others. It is thought that in this instance, people who do not own a car can sell their points to somebody who does.
Obviously these new cards are going to need to be thoroughly tested before they are introduced, but the hope is to really help the environment. Whilst there is a small fear that these cards will penalise some people, they are supposed to be a little fairer than carbon tax and in fact it is thought that these new cards could be quite equitable.
There are still questions which do need answering such as whether these cards are going to be voluntary. If they are to be forced upon people there is likely to be some form of panic unless things are explained a lot clearer than they have been. Of course the cards are nowhere near ready yet so it is likely that more questions will be answered as time goes on. If these cards will help the environment they have certainly got to be worth thinking about unless we want to see more natural disasters.
